The "la Caixa" Foundation, in collaboration with the CAC (Audiovisual Council of Catalonia), is making a new programme available to all educational centres to promote media competence and critical thinking. Designed in conjunction with the CAC, BeCritical provides secondary school, high school and vocational training students with educational resources for responsible and conscious use of the media, according to a press release from the "la Caixa" Foundation.

The programme is now available on the EduCaixa website so that teachers can download the proposed activities with comprehensive support for their application Barcelona, 17 September 2020. Media competition is increasingly necessary in the current context, in which young people are exposed to a constant volume of information and audiovisual stimuli that is not always rigorous or educational.

In the face of this, it is essential to encourage the development of a critical spirit and to promote skills that contribute to their training for life, such as asking questions, analysing the environment or acquiring dialogue skills. In view of this reality, "la Caixa" Foundation presents the BeCritical, Programme for Media Competence and Critical Thinking, for this new school year.

This initiative is part of the educational offer aimed at developing skills promoted by EduCaixa and is based on the experience and track record of the eduCAC programme. A collaboration with which both institutions seek to promote the Critical Thinking Press Release of young people, providing them with the necessary tools to interpret the information in a conscious way, and interact with the media in a critical and creative way, either by consuming or producing content.

The President of the Consell de l'Audiovisual de Catalunya, Roger Loppacher, highlighted: "Our culture, our leisure and entertainment, our information consumption and even our social relations are increasingly digital, and as independent regulators of the audiovisual sector, like all European regulators, we are committed to promoting this critical analysis of content and the responsible use of devices".

Along the same lines, the director of the Commercial and Educational Action Area of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Xavier Bertolín, stated: "In a world of open, free and constant access to information, and in times of uncertainty and transformation like the one we are going through, critical thinking becomes an essential competence. We want Be Critical to be a fundamental educational tool so that adolescents acquire awareness and responsibility in the face of consumption and the creation of information".
