Morocco puts the finishing touches to a successful summer season
Morocco's Minister of Tourism, Fatima Ezzahra Ammor, has indicated that this tourist season will be "a success in terms of flight scheduling, with the opening of 23 new routes connecting eight Moroccan cities with nine foreign markets", according to the state agency MAP. To this end, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has obtained sufficient accommodation to offer thanks to agreements made with international online agencies, as well as securing around 4 million seats on 20 airlines.
Travel agencies are forecasting the arrival of more than 860,000 tourists, so partnerships have been created with them to get the results they expect. "Morocco is experiencing a key momentum at the international level, which will continue throughout the year," the minister said. In May alone, around 1 million tourists arrived, a figure they attribute to the success of the efforts made before the end of the pandemic. Following the health crisis, they have worked to "improve the attractiveness of the destination in preparation for the take-off of the sector", the minister declared after presenting the latest measures taken by the Kingdom for this season.
The budget that Morocco has allocated to the tourism sector has mainly favoured air transport, while other measures such as the "Morocco, Land of Lights" campaign have increased interest in the country. A report conducted by CARMA has revealed that the perception of Morocco at all levels has improved following the participation of the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan national team, during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, leading to an increase in Google searches related to the Kingdom after the tournament.
Morocco has also positioned itself as one of the favourite destinations for "Solo Travel". 45% of Moroccan hotels and 50% of the activities offered to these travellers have achieved an excellent five-star rating. Morocco is also in the top 10 of emblematic places for road trips with its Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Loop and the Coastal Road trip.
The efforts made by the Moroccan Tourist Office in the search for new tourists are having very positive effects thanks to agreements to promote numerous Moroccan destinations through airlines such as EasyJet or Emirates Airlines and campaigns such as "Morocco, Land of Light" aimed at promoting the Kingdom as a world tourist destination, reviving the sector after being punished by the consequences of the pandemic and also diversifying the country's economy. This contributed to the fact that the director of the ONMT, Adel El Fakir, was recognized in the 18th place of the Top 100 leaders of the tourism and travel industry by the business and marketing programs of the Forbes Middle East magazine Office.
