The Moroccan tourism industry maintains the positive trend of the last four years since the arrival of the pandemic in 2020. With year-on-year growth of more than 7 percentage points, the country's tourism sector is increasingly becoming a fundamental pillar of the national economy.

In 2024, tourism in Morocco generated a total of more than 11.1 billion dollars, second only to the automotive and textile industries, which is the highest figure in its history.

This growing dependence on tourism means that the sector employs nearly one million workers directly and indirectly during the high season, of which 827,000 keep their jobs for the rest of the year.

Of the total income, almost a third corresponds to tourists' spending in the country, a positive trend, as tourists are spending more and more money for longer periods of time. The opportunities offered by the country provide tourists with a wide variety of activities: sports, mountain tourism, gastronomy... Among the most visited destinations were Rabat and Casablanca, with almost 40% of total tourism in 2024.

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) reported that the presence of major sporting events could be a differential factor favouring the achievement of the expected figures. In this respect, the ONMT expects that the hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations at the end of the year will lead to a considerable increase in relation to the figures for 2024.

The mobilisation of capital by the Moroccan government in the sector is best understood in the context of the goal of attracting at least 26 million tourists by 2030, the year of the World Cup. Investment in airports and roads is at an all-time high, as is the expansion of new air and sea routes. Furthermore, the offer is being expanded and investment is being facilitated with constant adjustments to the new Investment Charter.

A demonstration of government involvement was the presence of more than 180 diplomats and officials at the International Tourism Fair held in Madrid at the end of 2025, where agreements were concluded with the most important Spanish and Portuguese companies and associations in the sector.
