Said Jedidi, a great professional and pioneer of Spanish-language journalism in Morocco passes away

Journalist Said Jedidi, the first presenter of Spanish-language news on Moroccan public television and one of the founders of the Spanish-language press in Morocco, has passed away.
According to information provided on Sunday by Jedidi's family to the Moroccan press agency MAP, the Moroccan journalist and writer died on the night of Saturday, September 27.
He was the first Spanish-speaking face on Moroccan TV
Originally from Tetouan and born during the Spanish occupation of northern Morocco, Jedidi was the first presenter of a Spanish-language news program on the first Moroccan Radio Television channel after it began broadcasting in the early 1990s.
Said Jedidi also directed the news programs on Moroccan public radio and was in charge of the Spanish versions of the newspapers L'Opinion and Le Matin.
The Moroccan journalist also collaborated with Spanish media outlets such as El País and Televisión Española, and helped train young Moroccan journalists working in Spanish.

The deceased is one of the founding names of Spanish-language journalism in Morocco, having supervised, edited, and written for various newspapers and platforms for decades.
He also previously worked as general manager of the satellite channel “Córdoba” and was appointed national president of the World Federation of Spanish-speaking Writers in Morocco.
Said Jedidi was also known for his management of the InfoMarruecos platform and for his daily writing and publishing activities. His official pages and online platform show recent updates to his name during the last hours of his life.
He also stood out as a writer in the Spanish language.
Jedidi was awarded the “Encomienda de la Orden al Mérito Civil” (Order of Civil Merit) by the Spanish Embassy in the 1990s for his work in promoting the Spanish language in Morocco, and he published several novels in Spanish, such as “Grito Primal” in 2001 and “Precintado” in 2005.
Throughout his career, Said Jedidi earned respect in both Morocco and Spain, not only for his work as a journalist, but also for his ability to build bridges between cultures through the written word.
He is an example of the value of committed journalism, exercised with rigor, a pedagogical vocation, and a love for language.
His legacy will live on. His voice marked an era and his commitment transcended generations of Spanish-speaking journalists.
