The Ambassador on Special Mission for the Expo Malaga 2027 Candidature, Juan José Escobar; the Spanish representative at the BIE and Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in Paris, Javier Burgos and the Director General for Expo 2027 in Malaga of Malaga City Council, Jerónimo Blasco, presented today in Paris, at the headquarters of the International Exhibitions Bureau, the dossier of Malaga's candidature for the 2027 International Exposition. The other four candidatures were also presented today.

The dossier, on which a multidisciplinary team has worked, is a 265-page document that is structured in accordance with the BIE in 15 chapters describing the city, the theme, the Expo space, the timetable, the uses it would have after the event and includes updated estimates of visitors and economic impact.

"The urban era: towards the sustainable city" will be held in Malaga from 5 June to 5 September and the main reason for organising this Expo is its theme, which concerns all countries and organisations on a global scale. In this sense, it is recalled that in the barely two decades that will separate this Expo from the one held in Shanghai in 2010 dedicated to the future of cities, the world population will increase by 1,600 million inhabitants, the majority of whom will live in cities. In other words, by 2050, more than three quarters of the world's population will be living in cities and it is necessary to reflect on how to make population growth and sustainability compatible.

The theme therefore affects all countries regardless of their level of development and presents them with the challenge of using innovation as a tool for changing the model; a change that must be guided by the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN for 2030. Alongside the theme, the chosen sub-themes are developed: citizenship, innovation and environment.

The dossier will be presented publicly at an event organised by the administrations promoting the candidacy: Malaga City Council, the Government of Spain. Junta de Andalucía and Diputación Provincial. Information on the project, on which work began in 2019, is available on the website https://expo2027.malaga.eu/es/ and the official social networks.
