Spanish biologists arrive in the Emirates to promote the detection of COVID-19

Unilabs Middle East, a leading provider of diagnostic services in the United Arab Emirates, welcomed an expert team of seven molecular biologists from Spain, who will help local frontline medical workers expand Covid-19 testing capacity in the country. The Spanish team joins an existing group of laboratory specialists who are working to improve the productivity of the laboratory ecosystem, optimize per capita testing, improve efficiency in identification and diagnosis, support management of quarantine procedures and evaluate the effectiveness of release processes for patients recovered from Covid-19.
"Our team is working around the clock to take samples and provide results within 24 hours, and given the high demand, we are very happy to be able to draw on the resources, expertise and manpower that are part of a global laboratory like Unilabs," said Mohamed Daoud, CEO of Unilabs Middle East. Working closely with the UAE health authorities, we are committed to providing high-quality testing on the widest possible scale, and we are pleased to see daily increases in recoveries. With expertise in diagnostic and molecular technologies, clinical research study management, biochemistry, genetics and project management, the team will help local workers optimize the strategies required to support the country in its efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
In addition to medical expertise, the team also has experience in laboratory automation and software integration, to help streamline solutions and minimize the risk of human error. The Spanish team brings a wealth of experience across relevant medical and scientific domains. Dr. Milagros González-Rivera has over 20 years of experience in clinical research and is a respected voice in various medical disciplines, including biochemistry, oncology, hematology and microbiology. Irene Chaves Coira is an experienced researcher in neural pathways and brain development; Carol Sanchez is a biochemist and former team leader of a group of molecular biologists for real-time PCR, while Juan Francisco Gonzalez has 17 years of experience in laboratory IT, including integration and automation. Katherine Guardada, Cristina Cuesta and Lara Rubio are experienced molecular biologists.
