To date more than 1,500 families have been accommodated in the Ronald McDonald House

Stories and smiles for the Ronald McDonald House Malaga

The magic of Christmas is full of solidarity. The House of Mexico in Malaga and Andalusia joined forces with the Ly Company Foundation which sponsored thirty stories from Editorial Algorfa to fill with smiles the little ones and their families who are welcomed at the Ronald McDonald House in Malaga.

On the 20th of December, Claudia Luna Palencia, president of the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia was accompanied by Maité Bernal, president of the Ly Company Foundation and Ana Ramón, manager of the same foundation, to present the books to Belén Collantes, manager of the Ronald McDonald House in Málaga.

The work carried out by the Ronald McDonald House in Malaga is commendable: since 2012 it has been located on the side of the Maternity Hospital, strategically located to accommodate dozens of families who for medical reasons must hospitalise one of their children to receive medical treatment at the hospital and who, for economic reasons and also for the duration of the treatments, cannot afford to stay in a hotel. These are mainly families who live outside the city of Malaga.

The Casa opens its doors and welcomes these families by providing them with a decent room but also with their own space for cooking and leisure.

To date more than 1,500 families have been accommodated in the Ronald McDonald House who, on average, have spent 33 days living in the residence while their children receive medical treatment or are admitted to the Maternity Hospital.

The majority of these are rare diseases or child cancer treatments that make the situation painful, but thanks to the affection and welcome of all the staff at the Ronald McDonald House, they do a sweet and supportive job of accompaniment.

That is why the Casa de México in Malaga and Andalusia has come to support the Ronald McDonald House because it shares moral, civic and solidarity values in common with the Ly Company Foundation.

Both the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia and the Ly Company Foundation came into being last June, with a social mission that they also share in common: to support and promote projects in favour of children and young people so that they can finish their studies without being prevented from doing so by illness or the precariousness of their family environment.

"In the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia we know the value of studying because it is the key that allows us to break with poverty and backwardness. Our mission is to unite interests in favour of providing scholarships for children and young people to finish their studies until they graduate from university. It is the best thing my generation can do for our society," said Luna Palencia.

The Ly Company Foundation chaired by Maité Bernal is promoting various solidarity projects not only in Malaga and other parts of Spain but also in other parts of the world, and will soon begin to operate in Mexico.

Its aim is to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged, especially children, as well as to protect and care for the environment. One of their star projects is to help children under the care of the Junta de Andalucía and they have launched a campaign to find foster families for 300 children who are without a family in the province of Malaga.

In turn, the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia, thanks to the patronage of the Hotel AC Málaga Palacio, will deliver almost forty pairs of shoes, many of them non-slip, for teenagers from the Instituto Cánovas del Castillo.

On 22nd January at 6pm in the auditorium of the Sociedad Económica de Amigos de El País, the Casa de México in Málaga and Andalusia will present its annual awards to the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama; to Jorge González, director of the AC Málaga Palacio; to Reyna Traverso, CEO of the Niña Bonita Restaurant and to the Uppery Club.
