The CIP, ACPE, ACPI and APEA International Journalism Awards will be presented on Tuesday, October 15

The International Journalism Awards, granted by the International Press Club, the Association of Foreign Press Correspondents, the Association of Ibero-American Press Correspondents and the Association of Arab Journalists and Writers, will be presented on 15 October, at 18.00 hours, in the Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens in Madrid's Retiro Park.
The International Press Club, chaired by Javier Fernández Arribas, will award Juan Luis Cebrián, co-founder and former director of El País, the Lifetime Achievement Award-Salou, Playa de Europa as a tribute and recognition to his brilliant journalistic career and his role in the defence of freedom of expression and journalism.
Felipe Sahagún will receive the Best Spanish Correspondent Award for his knowledge, experience and ability to overcome all the obstacles facing journalism today in an increasingly polarised world and for his contribution to journalism as a former New York correspondent, university professor and analyst.
Mónica Uriel will receive the Best Foreign Correspondent in Spain Award for her work with the Italian news agency ANSA for more than 30 years, reporting with rigour on the main events in Spain.
The Documentary Journalism Award will go to the director and screenwriter José Luis López-Linares for his latest work Hispanoamérica, canto de vida y esperanza (2024) in which he shows a more positive approach to the impact of the Spanish conquest in America through the testimonies of expert historians and thinkers.
Fundación MAPFRE will receive the Mayor Repercusión Internacional Award for its great sensitivity and impeccable work in defence of the most vulnerable and its struggle to achieve a better, fairer and more caring world. Fundación MAPFRE, with its large team of volunteers, is present in 26 countries, where it implements programmes in the fields of nutrition, education, health and employment. This award will be collected by its general director, Julio Domingo.
The Journalism at the Limit - European University Award will go to the photojournalists Ofelia de Pablo and Javier Zurita, co-founders of the production company Hakawatifilm. Their work is a necessary fusion of talent, responsibility and innovation, having pioneered multimedia work for different platforms and on different subjects, demonstrating their commitment to information, journalism and society.
The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents (ACPE), chaired by Armelle Pape Van Dyck, will present the Culture Award to Joan Manuel Serrat. ‘We could keep all of his phrases at concerts, his dialogues with the press, and his songs, prose and poetry embraced in a taste for excellence,’ says the ACPE.
The Journalism Award goes to the newspaper The Objective. Founded in 2013, the newspaper emerged from near-clandestinity with its acquisition in 2016 by businesswoman Paula Quinteros and the arrival in 2021 of journalist Álvaro Nieto, who has set up a newsroom with an emphasis on multimedia, bringing together young reporters and established columnists.
The Tourism Award goes to Paradores de Turismo de España for its work in the conservation and promotion of historic buildings of different uses that have been transformed into charming accommodation. In addition to having establishments in eleven cities declared World Heritage Sites, 50% of the Paradores are located in monuments declared Sites of Cultural Interest (BIC) and/or Historic Sites.
And the Sports Award goes to the Women's Water Polo Team, the most successful team in history with three Olympic medals, its three European crowns and its world title in Barcelona, in addition to other World Cup and World League titles. Gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is the culmination of a golden generation.
For its part, the Association of Ibero-American Press Correspondents (ACPI), chaired by Sully Fuentes, will present its annual award to RTVE Instituto for its enriching training work in the audiovisual world and its great prestige, being a reference for many journalists.
Finally, the Association of Arab Journalists and Writers (APEAE), chaired by Shereen Dagani, dedicates its recognition and award, with an urgent call for the protection of life and defence of the right to information and freedom of expression, to Palestinian journalists in Gaza. To date, according to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, 165 journalists have been killed, 91 injured, 51 arrested and 87 institutions destroyed. The award will be collected by Naser Abubaker, president of the syndicate.
These awards are supported by Banco Santander, the European University, Salou City Council, 959 Ibéricos, Quely, Clos Galena Territorio Tarón and Atalayar Between Two Shores.
