The enlightED 2023 meeting brings together 2,500 attendees to rethink the impact of artificial intelligence on employment, ethics and education

The 6th edition of enlightED closed with 2,500 attendees and consolidated its position as a world benchmark in education, innovation and technology. The conference, promoted by Fundación Telefónica, IE University, South Summit and the "la Caixa" Foundation, took place at the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid under the slogan "Rethinking education in the age of artificial intelligence".
The enlightED 2023 meeting addressed the challenges, opportunities and solutions posed by generative AI, its use and applications for teachers and students, respect for diversity, regulation and ethical limits and the impact on the future of employment, among other issues.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Acting Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Pilar Alegría; the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida; the Chairman of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete; the Director General of Fundación Telefónica, Carmen Morenés; the CEO of IE University, Diego del Alcázar; the founder and CEO of South Summit, María Benjumea; and the Corporate Director of Education and Marketing of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Xavier Bertolín.
During the closing speech, Álvarez-Pallete said that "part of the solution lies in using platforms and personalising education through artificial intelligence and learning to use technology for a purpose, which is to leave no one behind".
As in its previous editions, the conference brought together nationally and internationally renowned thinkers to address the impact, challenges and opportunities of generative AI. These included Toju Duke, founder of Diverse AI; Daniel Susskind, expert on the impact of technology, with a focus on AI, on work and society and Professor of Economics at King's College London; Carl-Benedikt Frey, Dieter Schwarz Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Work at the Oxford Internet Institute; Edo Segal, entrepreneur, founder and CEO of bMuse; Priya Lakhani, founder and CEO of Century Tech; and Carlos Santana (DotCSV), one of the best-known AI communicators on YouTube in our language.
A more experiential enlightED
The meeting featured more than 30 debates, workshops and case studies to experience the uses and applications of AI in learning models, educational public policies, skills policies for AI and cybersecurity, and basic AI tools for the next digital generation, among other topics.
A series of debates that have delved into this new technology that has burst onto the scene this year and has marked a before and after in all sectors, including the transformation of the labour market, industry and business, communication and, above all, education.
