The International Congress of AI in Information Sciences of the UCM warms up engines

Almost 200 people have registered for the first International Congress on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Social Sciences and Humanities that will be inaugurated next Tuesday by Mayte Ledo, Secretary of State for Digitalization and AI, at the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in the University City

It is the first time that an AI congress of this magnitude is held, bringing together participants from 13 faculties of the UCM, academics, students, world experts, representatives of leading companies to discuss, in person and connecting from different parts of the planet on the challenges and challenges of the new technology spread over 14 round tables.

The congress will be held on the 16th, 17th and 18th of this month at the Faculty of Information Sciences in the University City and will be closed by the Director General of Research and Technological Innovation of the Community of Madrid, Marina Pilar Villegas.  

Companies such as Santander, Ferrovial, Garrigues, Microsoft, Google, Indra, Meliá, Repsol, Telefónica, Sabadell, SAS and entities such as the National Library, the World Tourism Organization, the Community of Madrid, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Ministry of Defense or the National Institute of Aerospace Technology are participating in the congress with speakers or in the opening and closing ceremonies.

The congress is the result of a year of work by its director, the academic secretary of the Faculty of Information Sciences, Pilar Cousido, and Marcos Sánchez Elez-Martin, professor of the Faculty of Computer Science and the UCM Research Group on Transparency, Good Governance and Communication.

For Cousido, "it has become clear that social scientists are unaware of crucial aspects of AI in both teaching and research applications. Pioneering or more advanced social science researchers are already developing in our University and, in general, in the Spanish one, lines of research to identify the challenges and main threats in their academic and scientific specialties.

The aim of this congress is to share these experiences and to make these challenges and threats known. The presence of representatives from the AI industry will allow to build bridges between academia and business."

In addition to Ledo, the inauguration will be attended by UCM's vice-rector for Technology and Sustainability, Jorge Gómez, the deans of the Faculties of Information Sciences, Jorge Clemente, of Computer Science, Luis Hernández, of Education, Gonzalo Jover, and of Philology, Isabel Durán, and of Economics, Carlos Rivero, as well as the organizer, Cousido. 

The round tables are Fine Arts and IA, Geography and History and IA, Economics and IA, Law and IA, Documentation and IA, Psychology and IA, Psychology and IA, Social Work and IA, IBEX 35 and IA, Politics and Sociology and IA, Education and IA, Philology and IA, Commerce and IA, Communication and Media and IA, and Philosophy and IA.
