The Mauritanian Association of Diving and Rescue has expressed to the people of the Kingdom of Spain its sincere condolences and deepest sympathy for the floods that have affected the area of Valencia and have left more than 200 victims.

‘This tragic incident has saddened us all, and our hearts go out to the bereaved families and all those affected by this disaster,’ says Mohamed Lamine Greimiche, president of the Mauritanian Association of Diving and Rescue and first vice-president of the International Council for Aquatic Rescue and Safety, in a letter addressed to the Spanish Embassy in Mauritania.

In the letter, Greimiche assures that his association puts ‘all its knowledge and experience’ at the service of Spain. ‘We are fully prepared to volunteer to participate in rescue operations and to provide assistance to contribute to the safety of the population and the affected areas’. Greimiche underlines the importance of ‘human solidarity’ as ‘an extension of the friendly relations’ between Spain and Mauritania.

‘We ask God to protect the Spanish people from all evil, and to bless them with security, happiness and development, hoping that this ordeal will be alleviated with the least possible damage, and that life will soon return to normal,’ he concludes.

The Spanish Embassy in Mauritania has responded to Greimiche through a letter signed by the Ambassador, Miriam Álvarez de la Rosa Rodríguez, in which, on behalf of the Spanish Government and all Spanish citizens, she sincerely thanks the condolences and support expressed.

‘We deeply appreciate your solidarity and the willingness of your organisation to collaborate and offer its experience and resources in support of the Spanish people in these difficult times,’ she said. ‘This gesture, full of empathy and humanity, strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite our countries,’ she adds.

The Spanish ambassador expressed her pride in ‘having such committed friends’, indicating that this collaboration ‘will contribute to further strengthen’ bilateral relations.
