Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2034 World Cup is beginning to gather support. The first support has come from one of the countries that will host the 2030 World Cup, Morocco.

In a press release, the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Nasser Bourita, expressed the Kingdom's support for the organisation of the World Cup by Saudi Arabia: "the Kingdom of Morocco affirms its full support for the will of the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to present its candidacy to organise the 2034 World Cup finals".

According to the statement, "this support stems from the strong ties between H.M. King Mohammed VI, his brother the Servant of the Holy Places of Islam, King Salman Ibn Abdelaziz Al-Saud, and H.R.H. Prince Mohammed Ben Salman Ben Abdelaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and President of the Council of Ministers".

The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, is fully convinced of the capacity of the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to organise this major sporting event, given the global development boom that the country is experiencing and its recognised organisational capabilities".

The announcement of the Saudi bid for the 2034 World Cup came just hours after FIFA confirmed Spain, Portugal and Morocco as hosts of the 2030 World Cup. "Two continents - Africa and Europe - united not only to celebrate football, but also to provide a unique social and cultural cohesion," FIFA said in its statement, in which it underlined the unifying power of football.

According to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), its aim is to "deliver a world-class tournament" that draws on the country's "ongoing social and economic transformation and its deep-rooted passion for football".

In addition, the federation said the Saudi bid is backed by its growing experience in hosting major football events and the emerging strength of Saudi Arabia's national football championship, with the addition of renowned players and coaches.
