No shame, no decency
In the midst of the beginning of a perfect storm, derived from the uncontrolled explosion of a systemic corruption scheme in the Sánchez government, known as the Koldo case; with, once again, and as in the case of the worst corruption scandal in Spain so far with the EREs in Andalusia, although with greater and deeper ramifications and implications - for the moment, it involves the third highest authority of the State, several ministries, ministers, former presidents of autonomous communities and a motley crew of socialist characters dedicated to politics and to sucking up, if not the only modus vivendi - it only occurs to the illustrious president to give in to each and every one of the demands of the fugitive Puigdemont, despite having to lie to the Spanish people again, for the umpteenth time with the old and putrid mantra that he was not going to back down one millimetre from his previous decision and that full amnesty had no place in the Spanish Constitution.
And all this, for a handful of votes; specifically six, in the hands of pro-independence supporters, coup plotters and frankly declared enemies of Spain, to ignominiously keep himself in the Moncloa armchair against all odds, whatever the cost and even if he has to: take away or demolish whatever is necessary, leave Spain at the height of the bitumen, destroy what little personal prestige he might maintain and deceive absolutely everyone with juggling games and grandiloquent phrases that have no credibility or legal or social basis or foundation that can minimally endorse such nonsense.
Countless value judgements have been pronounced by distinguished and well-prepared people on these issues, huge amounts of ink have been invested, thousands of hours of radio and television talk shows have been covered, and opinion polls have shown that the majority repudiate this step to be taken; but this individual, and the sort of people who make up his cabinet and the parliamentary group that supports them, do not seem to have the slightest influence or dent in his behaviour, nor are they personally and collectively ashamed of having to "change their minds" with more haste than a simple change of jacket.
Finally, and after actively and passively denying the major and the minor, today they are presenting for approval a political amnesty that will be "total" for "low intensity" terrorist crimes, as long as there have been no deaths or torture as a consequence of the violent actions perpetrated within the framework of the strategy of terror.
Consequently, it seems that the path chosen by the PSOE for the criminal erasure of the procés is to include in the amnesty any protest, altercation, attack or riot that, according to its criteria, is in accordance with international and EU law, based on a "tailor-made" interpretation of European Directive 2017/541 on the fight against terrorism.
An approach that - "in addition to continuing to be unconstitutional", according to several jurists - "goes beyond the Penal Code" in force and departs from the unequivocal jurisprudence of the Supreme Court on terrorism contained in articles 573 and 573 bis of the criminal law itself.
In short, and within the selective nature of applying what most benefits it, the government fully accepts the separatist account of the violence of the Tsunami in order to restrict the consideration of what is "terrorism", reducing it to cases in which "serious and effective violations" of articles 2 and 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights have been caused. Something similar occurs for analysing and defining the crime of "treason", which is currently being prosecuted against Puigdemont, which would only be excluded from the amnesty, as a derivative of the "use of force", in accordance with the standards in force in the United Nations for prosecuting cases of international interference by some states over others.
No matter that he is openly and covertly called a felon, or a traitor for all to understand; that he is accused of not keeping his word and of always doing the opposite of what he preaches in his election campaigns; he, his mariachis and the media chorus of joint and synchronised opinion maintain the same tone, rhythm and timbre of support and understanding, as if there were no other dawn.
His shamelessness is so brazen and supine that since May last year he has not submitted to parliamentary scrutiny in the Senate, which is, coincidentally, where the opposition has a majority. He takes advantage of or invents any unnecessary and useless trip to avoid being present in the Chamber at key moments for the presentation or vote on his foetuses and acts shamelessly by means of the Royal Decree to avoid the longest deadlines and the shame of having to receive or listen to the mandatory or not mandatory reports from serious State institutions on the unproductive and almost abortive documents he presents and in his attempts to dismantle the rule of law or tear the integrity of the nation to shreds.
Next, we will see the role that both the Constitutional Court and the State Attorney General's Office, both built in the image and likeness of their master's voice in a full display of mockery of dictatorial and autocratic character, will play, who will not put a single pega to this new and unbearable bodrio with which he intends to deceive the Spanish people once again, selling it as full of goodness when he and we all know it, because they themselves say so, because they themselves say so, it will not placate a single one of the separatists' objectives and planned actions and will mean leaving the State increasingly defenceless, corrupt to the core, impoverished as never before and in the hands or at the mercy of the worst enemies of Spain both inside and outside it, just for clinging to a position he should never have held in his life.
Once again, it will be necessary to resort to higher bodies at the European level, but we all know how slow and fickle they are and how they allow themselves to be influenced in their decision-making when electoral processes are approaching, as is the case here. These elements have not only not gone unnoticed by the felon, but have also been taken into account in his actions, as he has been doing.
A difficult situation to solve, especially when in Spain we may have, thanks to this type of concessions, which will undoubtedly continue, a long legislature ahead of us and the Spanish right is disunited and hammering at each other every time they have to reach a minimum agreement; imagine what it would mean if we had to go through major pacts to define and implement a full and complete legislature at the national level.
Everything works in their favour. We are hopeless.
