The Trump saga

On the contrary, everything becomes complicated, mistrust provokes aggressive and very negative reactions; the economy not only slows down, it comes to a standstill, waiting to see what might happen, and companies hold on to all possible resources and postpone investments that were going to be made. To sum up what is happening, we could say that it is not just that things are very turbulent, but that the world is in a dangerous state of upheaval and the decisions being taken are not defensive, but rather aimed at gaining an advantage over whatever may happen.
This is not a theory of human, business or political behaviour; it is the harsh reality that we are all suffering following Donald Trump's arrival in the White House. Perhaps the problem is not his abrupt and provocative decisions, which are excessive and clearly aimed at making America great again, along with himself and his interests. However, what he is doing is impoverishing millions of Americans in many cases. We will see how the tariff dance plays out with each and every country in the world. He raises them, lowers them, changes them.
It has happened with China, now with Vietnam, and negotiations are underway with the European Union. Thousands of families in European countries depend on these tariffs. In Spain, for example, producers of olive oil, olives, wine and other products are awaiting the outcome of the negotiations.
Trump has managed to get the Senate and Congress to pass his Tax Bill, which will have such a huge impact. And Elon Musk thinks it doesn't go far enough. Among many other considerations, what will cause irreparable damage to millions of people around the world is the disappearance of USAID, the world's largest development aid agency, because the Trump administration has decided to stop implementing foreign aid programmes that do not align with its policies and promote US interests.
Last week, the courts gave Trump some breathing space by authorising some of his decisions against immigration in the United States, but another issue is the lack of results in his attempts to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza in a matter of days.
Trump is navigating as best he can and as he sees fit in troubled waters, where his show of force against Iran has earned him some respect, but not enough for Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine. We will see if Israel does so with Hamas in Gaza.
The world is watching Trump's whims as best it can. Some say that everything is more thought out and prepared than it seems, which is why it is very worrying that Trump's children are running to succeed their father, who cannot run for another term under the Constitution.
Authoritarian populism is the great threat to world stability and security because of its intention to destroy liberal democracies. Trump's children would be a very difficult saga to digest or accept... But it is the Americans who vote, and that is where the responsibility lies, not only with the Democrats, but also with the Republicans themselves.
