France needs Morocco

France is aware that the Moroccan experience, in particular that of the DGED (Direction générale d'études et de documentation) and the DGST (Direction générale de la surveillance du territoire), can be of great help to France in the face of the challenges linked to immigration, the proliferation of violence and aggression, or perhaps the excesses of the Grand Mosque in Paris, under Algerian influence...
France recognises that Morocco is the engine of South-South development and security. That said, South-South development is the only way to ensure regional stability and, above all, an effective counter-attack against illegal immigration, which divides more than it unites. At the same time, France must rely on Morocco to secure the Sahel region, which has seen an exponential increase in terrorist proliferation over the past decade as a result of Algerian interference.
Darmanin thus came to Rabat not only to welcome the anti-terrorist cooperation with Morocco and praise the country, but above all to underline that this anti-terrorist cooperation with Morocco will be reflected in the security of the Paris Olympics this summer, stating that: "Without the Moroccan intelligence services, France would be more affected by terrorism, and we are very grateful to them, especially on the eve of the Olympics".
Moreover, the roadmap is even broader, as the two states will be able to help each other during the major sporting events we are about to witness, including this summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games, as already mentioned, and the Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco in 2025.
Bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism and criminal networks will also extend to the Sahel, especially in the area of illegal migration, as the Kingdom of Morocco, through the F.A.R., resorts every day to its means and forces to rescue migrants off the Moroccan coast. With this in mind, the two ministers stressed the importance of security and migration in this cooperation, describing it as "profound" and "multidimensional".
