Statement by the International Leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on the Russia-Ukraine Crisis

For many years I have been warning the major powers of the world to heed the lessons of history, especially with regard to the catastrophe and devastation wrought by the two world wars of the twentieth century.
In this regard, in the past, I have written several letters to leaders of different nations urging them to put aside their national and private interests to give priority to the peace and security of the world, applying true justice at all social levels. Unfortunately, a war has now started in Ukraine and the situation has become extremely serious and dangerous. This war has, moreover, the potential to escalate further depending on the next steps of the Russian government and the response of NATO and the major powers. There is no doubt that the consequences of any escalation will be dire and extremely destructive. It is therefore imperative at this time that every effort be made to avoid further war and violence. There is still time for the world to pull back from the brink of disaster and, for this reason and for the sake of humanity, I urge Russia, NATO and the major powers to concentrate their efforts on trying to de-escalate this conflict and work towards a peaceful solution through diplomacy.
As the leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I can only draw the attention of the world's political leaders to prioritise world peace and put aside their national interests and enmities for the sake of humanity. I make a sincere prayer that world leaders will act with sense and wisdom and strive for the betterment of human society.
I pray that world leaders will earnestly strive to safeguard and protect humanity - both today and in the future - from the torment of war, bloodshed and destruction. I pray, from the depths of my heart, that the leaders of the major powers and their governments will not take actions that serve to destroy the future of our children and the generations to come. Instead, may all their efforts and motivations be to ensure that we bequeath to those who follow us a world of peace and prosperity.
I pray that world leaders will heed the need of the hour and value, above all else, their obligation to ensure the peace and stability of the world. May Al'lah the Almighty protect all innocent and defenceless people, and may true and lasting peace prevail in the world! Amen.
