Marrakech: Morocco at the heart of international security partnerships
On the occasion of the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly, held in Marrakech from November 24 to 27, the Director General of the DGSN-DGST pole, Abdellatif Hammouchi, met with Faisal Shahkar, United Nations Adviser on Policing at the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and Under-Secretary-General for the Rule of Law. The meeting took place at the Ménara Gardens, an iconic venue hosting discussions at this global security summit.
During the meeting, Mr. Shahkar expressed the UN’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Moroccan security forces. He emphasized the importance of Moroccan expertise in supporting UN police missions, both at the New York headquarters and in field deployment areas.
The UN official praised the operational experience and expertise of Moroccan forces, highlighting their advanced training, ability to act effectively on the ground, and proficiency in multiple languages. According to him, these skills are key assets for the success of international missions and reflect the growing trust of international institutions in Morocco.
This meeting is also part of the bilateral consultations carried out by Mr. Hammouchi with various delegations and international organizations present in Marrakech. The objective: to consolidate security partnerships and enhance international coordination in addressing cross-border crime challenges.
Through these strategic exchanges, Morocco confirms its central role in promoting regional and international security, putting its expertise at the service of UN operations for more effective and better-coordinated interventions worldwide.
