André Azoulay is awarded the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise

André Azoulay, co-president of the Three Cultures Foundation and advisor to His Majesty the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, has just been awarded the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise, as published in Tuesday's Official State Gazette (BOE).
This distinction joins the long list of decorations, medals and honours he has received throughout his long career dedicated to promoting peace, coexistence between peoples, mutual respect and dialogue, such as the Medal of Andalusia for Solidarity and Concord just four years ago.
On this occasion, according to the Official State Gazette, the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X the Wise is awarded "in view of the merits and circumstances of Mr André Azoulay" and "on the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and at the proposal of the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, following deliberation by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on 27 February 2024".
In this way, the co-president of the Three Cultures Foundation receives one of Spain's most important awards, which distinguishes people who have excelled in the fields of culture, education, science, teaching or research. This is the case of personalities such as Nelson Mandela, Angela Merkel, Gabriel García Márquez, Camilo José Cela, Luis Buñuel, Federico Fellini, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein and Santiago Ramón y Cajal, among others.
André Azoulay's career
Born in 1941 in the Moroccan city of Essaouira and a journalist by profession, he has been an advisor for economic and financial affairs to the King of Morocco since 1991. He has been involved in numerous movements and associations dedicated to helping the process of dialogue and reconciliation between Jews and Arabs. He is the president of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures and was instrumental in the creation, 25 years ago, of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, of which he has been co-president ever since.
For Lorena García de Izarra, director of the Three Cultures Foundation, this Grand Cross of Alfonso X "is just another example of the exceptional nature of Mr Azoulay's career, which he continues to demonstrate in each of his acts; hence the fact that many countries and international organisations have distinguished his important work and the example he sets for all of us". "It is a real honour to have Mr Azoulay as co-president of the Fundación Tres Culturas, in this house of resistance to hatred and intolerance, as he likes to define it," added the director.
