The "la Caixa" Foundation's cultural centre in Seville reaches the figure of 1 million visitors four years after its inauguration on 3 March 2017

CaixaForum Seville has reached one million visitors this Friday 19 March since its inauguration in March 2017. In these four years, the cultural centre of the "la Caixa" Foundation has become a cultural and civic reference point, both for its programme of exhibitions and for the numerous activities held daily.

Since its inauguration, it has been open to the city and its citizens and groups such as universities, business organisations, social entities, other foundations, and public and private institutions, which have carried out hundreds of activities at the Seville headquarters.

A consolidated cultural space in the city

Since then, the cultural centre has established itself as a centre for the dissemination of art, humanities and science, hosting a total of 21 travelling exhibitions. Some of the most visited have been 'Pharaoh. King of Egypt', which opened in September 2019 and attracted more than 106,000 visitors; 'Disney. The Art of Storytelling', which opened in November 2017 and attracted more than 67,000 visitors; and the pictorial review of the artist Anglada-Camarasa, which opened the venue in 2017 and captivated more than 60,000 visitors.

But beyond the exhibition halls, the cultural offer also stands out for bringing together all kinds of audiences, attracted by an eclectic and quality programme of activities. In this way, the cultural centre has been a tool to promote the debate of ideas, new trends, family leisure, or reflection on major issues, programming musical and theatrical performances, concerts, informative debates, screenings or artistic actions with new innovative formats.

After four years open to the public, the space located in Torre Sevilla has become a cultural institution at the service of the local public. In fact, since its opening, more than 85.1% of visitors have been from Seville. Likewise, it has boosted the processes of cultural mediation and dynamisation, organising nearly 10,000 groups of visits guided by an educator to the exhibitions. A total of 23.44% of visitors to exhibitions have enjoyed a visit with some kind of cultural mediation.

Another aspect of the CaixaForum model that stands out is the effort to bring culture closer to young people, thus laying the foundations for the development of a lifelong cultural habit. During this period, 126,512 schoolchildren have visited it, who have taken part in more than 5,000 activities and/or visits, as well as summer camps.

From day one, CaixaForum Seville has become an integral part of the cultural life and atmosphere so characteristic of the Andalusian capital, participating in initiatives and events such as the Andalusia Day, La Noche en Blanco, World Space Week, Researchers' Night, Murillo Year and the Summer in the City 2020 project promoted by Seville City Council.

The cultural centre continues to provide a diverse offer, following the health measures. The public will be able to enjoy the last days of the exhibition 'Pixar. Building Characters', open until 21 March 2021, in which visitors can delve into the process of creating the characters of the famous animation production company. The exhibition programme continues with 'Mirrors, in and out of reality', until 6 June, an exhibition in which we will learn mathematics and physics with mirrors as the protagonists, without leaving fun and amazement aside.

Soon it will also host the exhibition 'Objects of Desire. Surrealism and Design. 1924-2020', from 27 April to 22 August, with works that will allow us to appreciate international artists who participated in this trend. In addition, from 9 July to 31 October, we will be able to enjoy 'Vampires. The Evolution of the Myth', which relates the myth and the arts.

In addition, the cultural offer is completed every week with a varied proposal for all ages. From family workshops to screenings for children and adults in the Pequeños Cinéfilos or Sala C cycles, musical shows, micro-concerts, "Encounters with..." different artists, conferences and debates, etc.

Planning of the visit and service of educators

To guarantee the safety of visitors and compliance with health measures against COVID-19, CaixaForum Seville applies a safety and hygiene protocol that includes regular cleaning and disinfection of spaces, limited capacity in exhibitions and activities to guarantee a safe distance between people at all times, as well as the obligatory use of masks and the availability of hydroalcoholic gel.

The cultural centre has an educator service throughout the week, with the presence of an educator in the exhibition hall available to the public for any questions or comments on the exhibitions. The service is provided during the opening hours indicated on the website.

In order to facilitate access and improve the visitor experience, it is recommended that you plan your visit in advance by booking or purchasing tickets on the website. From the CaixaForum Seville website, visitors can find out the availability of tickets by time slot to channel their request and, in this way, guarantee their access to the hall, which is currently limited in terms of capacity due to health and safety measures.
