As part of the al-Andalus Chair, the Three Cultures Foundation of the Mediterranean is hosting the conference ‘The Travelling Alhambra. Orientalist Architecture in Latin America’, by Professor Rafael López Guzmán, one of the most prominent figures in the field of art history and heritage studies in our country.

This lecture will take an exciting journey through the cultural and artistic footprint of al-Andalus beyond its usual spatial and temporal boundaries, focusing on the impact that its legacy had on the American territories in the wake of colonisation.

Through a rigorous and informative approach, Professor López Guzmán will analyse the ways in which aesthetic, constructive and symbolic elements from the Andalusian world, and particularly from its great icon, the Alhambra in Granada, were reinterpreted and given new meaning in the New World, giving rise to a romantic and orientalist revival.
