Al-Washmi: ‘Spain has important specialists in the Arabic language’

Professor Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Washmi, from the King Salman Global Academy of the Arabic Language, values the role of cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Spain in the field of linguistics

During his visit to the opening ceremony of Arabic Language Month, the secretary general of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Washmi, spoke to the Spanish media covering the event, including Atalayar.

Al-Washmi highlighted Saudi Arabia's global leadership in promoting the use of the Arabic language: ‘We have implemented various programmes to mark Arabic Language Month in many countries around the world, such as China, India, Malaysia and now Spain, in cooperation with institutions that are friends of this beloved Kingdom.’

As the head of the King Salman Academy explained, ‘the Arab Language Month celebrations include a series of competitions, seminars, conferences, training courses and various events that will take place in three cities in the Kingdom of Spain: Madrid, Cordoba and Granada.’

Regarding the recent opening ceremony, which took place on 21 April at the Madrid headquarters of Casa Árabe, Al-Washmi highlighted that ‘the opening ceremony included a series of events, among which was the award ceremony for the public competitions held in Spain, in which numerous students from the programmes offered by the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language in this country participated, which are available to students from multiple platforms’.

Al-Washmi also pointed out that ‘we are always delighted to cooperate closely with experts, both Arab and from other countries, and with Spanish specialists in the Arab world in general. The Kingdom of Spain has an important group of specialists in the Arabic language who have renewed what Sibawayh and other linguists had done and presented to the Arabic language’.

Dr Al-Washmi has held the position of Secretary General of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language since February 2021. He holds a PhD in Rhetoric and Literary Criticism from Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University and has extensive experience in teaching Arabic and managing Arabic language institutions. He previously held the position of Secretary General of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for the Service of the Arabic Language, as well as the presidency of the Literary Club of Riyadh, the Saudi capital.
