Cantabria will have four new solar communities thanks to Iberdrola Spain

These renewable energy installations will be the first of their kind that the company will market in the region
  1. Leader in the commercialisation of self-consumption

Cantabria will have four new solar communities thanks to Iberdrola Spain. Thanks to the new installations, the company will set up a photovoltaic solar system on the roofs of companies in Camargo, Piélagos and Reinosa, which will be the first that Iberdrola Spain will market in Cantabria.

The photovoltaic installations will allow 544 families in the area to benefit from the advantages of renewable self-consumption through a solar community that will mean savings of up to 30% on their electricity bills, without the need for their own installation or investment.

This form of community self-consumption allows users to share 100% sustainable energy generated from a single photovoltaic installation located a maximum of two kilometres from their home.

In total, the installations will have 787 solar panels and a total power of 362 kW, enough to produce 80 MWh annually, which will prevent the emission of around 441 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next 30 years.

For Eduardo Lobato, Iberdrola Spain's regional sales manager, these projects ‘reflect the company's commitment in the region to local, sustainable and innovative actions that enable it to supply local energy to its customers’.

Leader in the commercialisation of self-consumption

As part of its commitment to accelerating the energy transition, Iberdrola Spain not only promotes self-consumption by favouring its incorporation into the energy system through its networks, but also leads the market in customer management of this modality in the country.

Iberdrola España, a pioneer in the provision of self-consumption for customers with single-family homes, has adapted to different needs to make solar self-consumption available to all its customers through its new Smart Solar solutions.

Currently, in Spain more than two thirds of the population live in high-rise buildings. For this segment, the energy company offers collective self-consumption alternatives that include the possibility of assigning the roof space to Iberdrola España so that it can install the photovoltaic system, facilitating access to the green energy generated for people living nearby.

As for the possibility of offsetting the energy fed into the grid, Iberdrola España customers have the Solar Cloud service, which allows them to offset surpluses beyond the energy term, and even transfer them for consumption in another residence.
