The Morocco-Spain Economic Council (CEMAES) and Foment del Treball Nacional de Cataluña held an economic and business meeting in Morocco with the aim of further strengthening economic and trade cooperation between two strategic allies, Morocco and Spain.

The high-level trade and business mission organised by CEMAES and Foment del Treball Nacional under the slogan ‘Morocco-Spain: strategic partners for common growth’ took place between 27 and 29 May and discussed ways of further increasing trade and economic cooperation between the two parties.

Among the main objectives of the meeting was to highlight the investment opportunities offered by the North African country in a dynamic and open regional environment, with conditions offered by the Moroccan State that favour in all aspects the arrival of foreign investment in the Moroccan business fabric, with benefits such as tax reductions, streamlining of all types of procedures and significant investment aid.

Foment de Treball Nacional is one of Spain's most important business organisations and represents entrepreneurs in Catalonia, one of the most influential autonomous communities in Spain, hence the importance of the meeting.

The Foment del Treball Nacional delegation was led by its president, Josep Sánchez Llibre, and included around twenty Catalan businesspeople and institutional representatives from key sectors such as industry, infrastructure, renewable energy, automotive, agri-food, technology and finance.

The visit programme was divided into three stages. The first stage, on 27 May, focused on the city of Tangier, with visits to Tangier Automotive City and a meeting with the Regional Investment Centre of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region.

The second stage took place in Rabat on 28 May and included an institutional meeting with the Spanish Ambassador to Morocco, Enrique Ojeda-Vila, a meeting with the Moroccan Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding between the Moroccan Ministry of Investment and companies that were part of the mission, thanks to the mediation of CEMAES. These projects will be developed in Kenitra, Tangier and Tetouan, with a total investment of 500 million dirhams (around 48 million euros) and will enable the creation of more than 700 direct jobs in sectors such as automotive, packaging, waste recovery and construction materials.

In Rabat, Karim Zidane, Moroccan Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, also welcomed this important delegation of Catalan companies, in the presence of the Spanish ambassador to Morocco.

The third stage then moved on to Casablanca, with a working session at Casablanca Finance City and a visit to the Nouaceur Technopolis centre, as well as a meeting with the governor of the province.
