The company Driscoll's Maroc has started the construction of a conditioning plant for soft fruits, strategically located in the Loukkos agropolis in the south of the city of Larache.

The construction of the new conditioning plant by the world giant of soft fruits, a leading producer of strawberries, represents a very important added value for the northern region. The inauguration was presided over by the governor of the province of Larache, Bouassam El Alamine, in the presence of the project's protagonists, representatives of the Regional Investment Centre of the Region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (CRITTA) and other partners.

With a surface area of more than 5 hectares, the new facility constitutes a significant investment in the province of Larache, as well as a great opportunity for job creation, especially for the local population.

Quality support encourages further investment

Investing in this project required a budget of some 150 million dirhams, reflecting the fact that doing business in Morocco, being fruitful, has become one of the priorities of the American group Driscoll's, which continues to invest in the Kingdom.

Once the project is completed, it will offer more than 500 direct jobs, thus reinforcing the local economic fabric and contributing to the prosperity and the projection of the agropolis, which constitutes a new area very attractive at all levels.

The local authorities have been thanked for their continuous support of the project since its inception and have played an essential role in its realisation and its harmonious integration in the region, according to a statement from Driscoll's company.

The same source expressed their gratitude for the quality support provided by the Regional Investment Centre throughout the entire process, from the prospecting phase to the land acquisition procedures and obtaining the building permit in record time.

"The support, professionalism, advice and ability to anticipate our needs have been determining factors for the domiciliation of the project in the region and have contributed greatly to its smooth progress," the statement added.

The officials of the Californian company installed in Morocco affirm that "this fruitful collaboration will bear fruit in the coming months, as this new soft fruit conditioning plant will not only boost economic growth, but will also be a successful experience in the province of Larache, just like the unit located in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region".

Driscoll's: American success story in Morocco

The American giant, known for its licensed partnerships with new soft fruit producers, is consolidating its investments outside the US borders, especially in Europe, South Africa, Australia, China and Morocco.

In the Alawi kingdom, Driscoll's has a strong presence in the Gharb region, particularly in Moulay Bousselham. This presence is supported by the creation of the new soft fruit plant in the north of the country.

The ambition of the American group Driscoll's does not stop here, but it wants to reinforce its presence in Morocco by targeting the city of Dakhla in the south of the country as an ideal destination for the cultivation of blueberries, which can be marketed two to three weeks earlier than those grown in other regions, thanks to the favourable climatic conditions.

The world leader in the production and marketing of red berries will soon celebrate a decade of presence on the Moroccan market and has two conditioning centres in Moulay Bousselham and Agadir, in addition to the new plant inaugurated this Thursday in the city of Larache, without losing sight of its ambitions in Dakhla.

It should be recalled that the American group is committed, in particular with the producers, to buy their entire production, which guarantees local producers a secure outlet for their products. This is a major advantage, given the uncertain market situation.
