Renault Group and Iberdrola Spain have today reaffirmed their relationship by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that establishes new strategic lines of collaboration between the two companies to drive the energy transition and electromobility in Spain.

The agreement includes pioneering decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects, the promotion of sustainable and accessible mobility with a unique offer for the customers of both companies and the development of technologies and charging point infrastructures.

Thanks to this agreement, customers who purchase a 100% electric car from Renault Group (Renault, Dacia and Alpine) will benefit from up to 10,000 kilometres of free home charging per year for three years (30,000 in total), the installation of a Mobilize charger, competitive financing through Mobilize Financial Services and a 100% renewable home electricity contract with Iberdrola Spain.

In addition, in order to drive decarbonisation and energy efficiency in the value chain of Renault Group's Hybridisation Hub in Spain, the alliance between the two companies will promote technological innovations and advanced energy solutions, such as long-term renewable energy contracts (PPAs), renewable self-consumption, energy storage and electrification and green hydrogen for industrial processes.

The two companies will also collaborate on the development and deployment of Smart Charging technologies for optimised electric load management, including the injection of electricity from the vehicle into the grid or the ability to power the customer's home with the vehicle's energy. Customers will be able to extend these benefits and reduce their energy bills through Iberdrola Spain's Advanced Smart Assistant (ASA), which promotes smart charging of the vehicle, adapting to the type of home and the characteristics of the electricity system.

Synergies will also be sought around charging, both at Renault Group facilities and for its customers, especially those of the Mobilize brand, as well as collaboration between the two companies for the installation of domestic charging points for customers.

Iberdrola España, which has more than 10 million electricity contracts and is the leader in public and private recharging in Spain, and Renault Group, with a sales volume of 155,000 vehicles sold in the country last year, have signed the first agreement of its kind between an energy company and a car manufacturer in Spain.

At the signing ceremony held today at the Iberdrola España offices in Madrid, Josep María Recasens, Chair and CEO of Renault Group Iberia, said: "The automotive industry is facing multiple challenges simultaneously, and decarbonisation is one of the most important. The signing of this pioneering MOU between Iberdrola Spain and Renault Group marks a milestone in the energy transition and electromobility in Spain because we are addressing the entire value chain: from decarbonisation of industrial processes, to boosting sales, to charging infrastructure. In addition, from the manufacturer's perspective, we are working to break down the barriers to entry for electric vehicles, optimising the infrastructure of charging points, improving the range, and lowering the price of electric vehicles to make it the dominant technology on a large scale.

Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola Spain, said: "Today's agreement is another step in a journey of close collaboration. Both companies have demonstrated our total commitment to the electrification of mobility, which is key to our energy autonomy and economic development. Together we have ensured that the electric vehicle has become a reality in the world". Ruiz-Tagle added: "The solution offered by Iberdrola España and Renault Group to customers is different from others that can be found on the market due to its focus and response to customer needs, simplicity and innovation".

Those attending Automobile Barcelona 2025, which will be held from 10 to 18 May in Barcelona, will have the opportunity to learn about the value proposition of this offer thanks to the customer journey that will be present at the Renault stand, located in Hall 8, and at the Iberdrola España stand, located in the Energy Zone.

Long-standing alliance in Spain

This agreement joins the PPA signed by Iberdrola España and Renault Group for the long-term supply and consumption of 282 MW of renewable energy at the carmaker's plants in Spain. Iberdrola España was recently recognised as the largest seller of PPAs in Europe for the second consecutive year, according to the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2025 report.

Last February, the two companies also sealed a partnership to promote the accessibility of electric vehicles to the public with a discount of 800 euros on the purchase of any Renault Group brand car through the Energy Saving Certificates (CAE).
