Indra develops an expert remote support solution for defence system maintenance
Indra has developed a new expert remote support solution that provides specialised technical assistance in the maintenance of land, naval and air defence platforms and systems, with the aim of ensuring maximum availability and operational capacity in a more efficient manner.
The company has been providing support services for different types of systems for more than 50 years, both those designed and manufactured in-house and those from third parties. The maintenance of radars, aircraft, ships or combat vehicles often requires the deployment of experts, sometimes to remote areas where missions are carried out.
These trips not only involve significant costs, but also have an impact on the availability of resources that are critical to a country's security or the effectiveness of a mission. To solve this problem, Indra has developed a new expert assistance solution that, using secure and encrypted communications, provides technicians deployed in the field with a direct connection to specialists who are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The solution designed by Indra also features a multilingual simultaneous translation service, so that technicians can obtain the support they need from specialists without language being a barrier.
To facilitate collaboration between technicians and experts, the system allows the use of multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets or smart glasses, giving technicians the freedom to continue working on the system while sharing what they are seeing and receiving instructions to complete the task. Indra developed the solution in collaboration with Zerintia Technologies.
Rafael Molano, Director of Business Development in Indra's In Service Support (ISS) area, explains that "the remote expert support system not only streamlines maintenance and eliminates geographical barriers, it also allows for much more orderly and efficient work, planning interventions and recording the actions carried out to have greater control over all the work performed on each system, generating shared intelligence with all the data collected."
Indra is driving the digital transformation of maintenance with the latest technology and the reliability, rigour and flexibility required by critical defence systems. The company also plays a prominent role in projects such as the development of the Spanish Army's Logistics Base and the SILPRE system, which will act as its brain. Indra is also a pioneer in the application of intelligence to the world of defence and has presented its IndraMind platform, an intelligence system designed to optimise the automation of critical operations and guarantee excellence in multi-domain operations.
