Indra Group CEO Ángel Escribano participates in a business meeting at Downing Street
Indra Group Executive Chairman Ángel Escribano participated on Wednesday in the Business Roundtable held at Downing Street, the official residence of the British Prime Minister.
It was a high-level business meeting, opened by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, in which a small number of Spanish and British companies participated. The meeting was also attended by the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Raquel Reeves, and the Spanish Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo.
Indra Group has been present in the United Kingdom for twenty years, a key market for the company, where it plans to have more than 1,000 employees. The company has just announced the appointment of a business director in the country. ‘The United Kingdom is a strategic country for us. We want to have a greater presence in defence and space. We are currently a leading partner in mobility solutions, air traffic management and radars,’ said the president of Indra Group.
The company manages the Silvertown Tunnel for Transport for London (TfL), a key infrastructure for urban mobility that was recently inaugurated. The company's technology has been applied for years to twelve other tunnels in the capital. In addition, it is going to renew the UK's air surveillance network with state-of-the-art radars, and the Ministry of Defence has simulators developed by Indra Group to train its pilots. In the last two years, three acquisitions have been made in the UK to strengthen the development of aerospace communications and air traffic management systems.
Ángel Escribano took advantage of his speech to reiterate the company's commitment to the United Kingdom and its interest in continuing to collaborate with its British partners. He also highlighted the leading role played by Indra Group in the Spanish defence sector and the company's growth plans, also in Europe. "We live in a multifaceted reality that requires a comprehensive vision and adaptation. At Indra Group, we are ready for this challenge and want to mobilise and cooperate with the entire defence ecosystem to strengthen industrialisation and develop cutting-edge technologies that contribute to building the strategic autonomy that Spain and Europe need."
In this regard, Indra Group has just secured the largest financing package from the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Spain to date to promote research and development of dual technologies applied to the defence and space sectors. "All the technology we work on has society and its challenges at the heart of its design. At Indra Group, we develop fully digital self-protection systems to better protect our military aircraft and helicopters, we invest in space to ensure secure communications in critical operations, we apply AI to detect fires, to stop wind turbines when protected birds pass by, to combat disinformation... We develop technology that solves challenges and defends freedoms in Europe."
