The Moroccan authorities have announced a budget of nearly 60 million dirhams to carry out flood protection works in the Ajdir valley, in the municipality of Ksar Sghir and the town of Ouezzane. These projects have been approved by the Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Association.

As reported by Moroccan media such as Yabiladi, this agreement will serve to protect the Ajdir valley (province of Al Hoceima) against flooding, with a budget of approximately 35 MDH. This fund is co-financed by the programme to combat the effects of natural disasters, by the Ministry of the Interior, which is contributing 15 MDH, and by the Regional Council and the Loukkos Water Basin Agency, which are each contributing 10 MDH.

These works are scheduled to be carried out between 2023 and 2025 in conjunction with other projects such as the construction of the new provincial hospital and certain tourist areas near Wadi Ibloqen.

For the municipality of Ksar Sghir, an allocation of 13.9 million dirhams was allocated to protect the centre of Farsioua from flooding through the construction of a protective barrier at the level of the Ksar Sghir wadi.

This project is part of a partnership between the Fund to combat the effects of natural disasters (4.17 MDH), the ABHL (3 MDH), the regional council (4.5 MDH) and the municipality of Ksar Sghir (2.23 MDH), for the period 2023-2025.

In addition, a sum of 10.6 MDH will also be mobilised to complete the project to protect the town of Ouezzane against flooding, within the framework of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Equipment and Water (6 MDH), the regional council and ABHL (1 MDH each), the municipality of Ouezzane (0.6 MDH) and the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the North -APDN- (2 MDH).

The works, which should be carried out between 2023 and 2024, concern the development of watercourses to the west of Ouezane, the transfer of drinking water networks, the improvement of water flow and the facilitation of drainage.
