Meeting between the MSP and various Mauritanian political formations.
During a brief stay in Nouakchott, the first secretary of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP), Hach Ahmed, met with several Mauritanian political personalities, including the president of the Popular Progressive Alliance Party, Messaoud Belkheir.
During the meeting, the two politicians examined the latest developments in North West Africa with particular attention to the situation in Western Sahara. In relation to the UN process to reach a solution to the long-standing problem in the former Spanish colony, both leaders expressed their hope that the current UN envoy, Staffan de Mistura, will succeed in moving the political process forward towards a peaceful and just settlement through dialogue between the parties.
During this meeting with Messaoud Belkheir, considered one of the most lucid and charismatic leaders of the Mauritanian political class, the first secretary of the MSP explained the road map presented by the Movement last October during the International Conference for Dialogue and Peace held in the Senegalese capital, Dakar. Mr Ahmed underlined that the emergence of the MSP in 2020 was the most important political event that has marked the evolution of the Sahara dossier, because, in addition to its commitment to the peaceful way and to a compromise solution with the Kingdom of Morocco, it introduces the culture of multipartyism in Saharawi society after 50 years of the monopoly of political life by the single party system embodied by the Polisario Front.
