The Permanent Political Commission (PPC) of the Saharawi Movement for Peace (SMP) has asked Staffan de Mistura, the personal envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) for Western Sahara, to include the organisation in the political process being followed to resolve the Saharawi dispute.

The Permanent Political Commission of the Saharawi Movement for Peace met on the afternoon of Saturday 6 April 2025, under the chairmanship of its first secretary, Hach Ahmed Bericalla.

In addition to the members of the PPC, the coordinators in Saguis El Hamra, Ouad Deheb and Mauritania were also in attendance, as well as the person in charge of International Relations of the MSP.

The highest political body of the MSP evaluated the work and results of the Third International Conference for Dialogue and Peace, organised on 27 February in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain), unanimously highlighting the success of the meeting and emphasising the importance of the international presence and the large delegation of tribal notables. The presence of the latter was valued for consolidating the legitimacy of the MSP as the organisation most representative of Saharawi opinion at the present time.

The CPP of the MSP also presented proposals for work and activities for the current year, underlining the need to accompany the process in the hands of the United Nations aimed at the search for a political solution to the Western Sahara dispute.

On the eve of the report to be presented to the Security Council next week by the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, the highest governing body of the MSP again urged Staffan de Mistura to include the Saharawi Movement for Peace in the political process as a key actor in breaking the vicious circle in which the peace operation in Western Sahara has been stuck for three decades.
