CaixaForum+ premieres a new channel in collaboration with L'Auditori

On 16 March, CaixaForum+ is adding a new channel to its offer thanks to its collaboration with L'Auditori de Barcelona. For its launch, this new channel includes four major concerts and the premiere of new episodes of the Offstage series, which takes us beyond the stage to get to know the musicians. 

The Offstage series is created by L'Auditori de Barcelona and aims to show the most personal facets and artistic concerns of the most stimulating creators on the current scene. The pieces establish a fertile dialogue between musicians and leading figures from other disciplines such as culture, art and sport. The unpublished episodes that the new channel premieres this week are starring:

  • Anja Bihlmaier (orchestra conductor) and Laia Palau (former captain of the Spanish national basketball team). 
  • Xavier Sabata (countertenor) and Daniel Riera (fashion photographer) 
  • Quartet Casals (string quartet) and Jaume Plensa (visual artist and sculptor who recently directed and premiered Verdi's opera Macbeth at the Liceu) 
  • Antonio Ruz (choreographer) and Cesc Casadesús (choreographer, dancer and director of the GREC Festival).

The channel also includes four major concerts that have taken place in the last seasons of this musical institution:

  • The opera Amadigi di Gaula (1715), by Händel, with Núria Rial and Xavier Sabata, conducted by Dani Espasa. 
  • MAP & Symphonic Band: MAP, the jazz supergroup formed by pianist Marco Mezquida, saxophonist Ernesto Aurignac and drummer Ramon Prats (undoubtedly one of the most interesting groups on the Spanish jazz scene), joins the Banda Municipal de Barcelona to give a new dimension to their repertoire.

  • Haydn-Zemlinsky-Magrané: Kazushi Ono conducts the Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña in a concert whose repertoire includes Haydn's Symphony No. 49 (1768) (known as "La passione"); Lyrische Symphony, op. 18 (1922-1923), by Alexander Zemlinsky and Obreda (2020), by Joan Magrané. 
  • Brahms-Oliu-Haydn: Juanjo Mena conducts the Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña in a concert whose repertoire includes Brahms' Symphony No. 3 ("Frei aber Froh", 1883); Haydn's Symphony No. 44 ("Trauer", 1772) and the world premiere of In luce Praesentis ("In the light of the present", 2021), by Miquel Oliu, from Barcelona.

Two prestigious Spanish film and theatre performers, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón (Parallel Mothers) and José Luis García-Pérez (Cachorro), star in this multidisciplinary poetry recital based on one of the most characteristic works of the Canadian Anne Carson, 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature. The Beauty of the Husband. A Narrative Essay in 29 Tangos (2019), the author's first work published in Spain, is an unclassifiable chronicle of the breakdown of a marriage.

In this recital created by the Princess of Asturias Foundation and staged by Francisco Pardo, Carson's poetry is fused with visual projections and tango music performed live by bandoneonist Nicolás Córdoba.

Masters of journalism: José María Carrascal

José María Carrascal is the protagonist of the new episode of the podcast Masters of Journalism, which premiered on Monday 13 March. José María Carrascal is a journalist and writer of more than twenty books, including Groovy (1972), which won the prestigious Nadal Prize.

Carrascal began his journalistic career in the late 1950s as a correspondent, first in Germany (for the newspapers Pueblo and ABC) and later in New York (for Pueblo, ABC and the television channel Antena 3). Carrascal became a popular face in Spain in the early 1990s, presenting the Antena 3 news for almost a decade. From the late nineties, he gradually disappeared from television to work mainly in the press, in media such as ABC and La Razón. His long professional career has earned him several awards, such as the Antena de Oro Television Award and, in 2021, the Luca de Tena Award.

The podcast Maestros del periodismo (Masters of Journalism) brings together the experiences and experiences of great figures in this profession. The Madrid Press Association, which produces the podcast, wants with this strategic project to preserve the memory of journalism through its protagonists and extol the pride of being a journalist.
