King Mohammed VI of Morocco and the President of China, Xi Jinping, agreed in a telephone conversation to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus in the operational field. According to a statement by the Royal Cabinet, the monarch and the Chinese president discussed the future stages of this bilateral cooperation in the fight against the pandemic.

Cooperation will focus on issues such as medical equipment, virus testing and the exchange of information and experience between the two countries, the note explained, adding that the talks also covered political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. The Royal Cabinet points out that this cooperation forms part of "the framework of friendly relations between the two countries, strengthened by the joint declaration on strategic partnership" signed by Mohammed VI and Xi Jinping during the visit of the Alaouite King to Beijing in May 2016

On August 19, Morocco's health minister, Khaled Ait Taleb, announced that his country will participate in the Phase 3 trials of the vaccine developed by the Chinese state laboratory Sinopharm. Several Moroccan media reported that these trials will be carried out from next week on 600 people who have already volunteered, and will take place in three hospitals in Rabat and Casablanca
