The German team of journalists made a fierce defence of their title, won two years ago in Italy, in the European Nations Cup, and with 331 points they once again won the VI Nations Press Cup Gran Canaria 20-21, the golf competition that every two years brings together journalists from all over the continent.

More than 130 journalists played both the main tournament and the parallel tournament, at the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas, Meloneras Golf by Lopesan, Maspalomas Golf and the exotic Salobral, a variety of courses as different as they are impressive for their surprising locations. Suffice it to say that the Bandama course, located in the caldera of the extinct volcano of the same name, is the oldest club in Spain, created by the English in 1891. This week, therefore, it celebrated the 130th anniversary of its foundation with all the European press who had travelled to Gran Canaria.

The final victory went to Germany with 331 points, the sum of the best cards of the tournament, and where the couple formed by Ralph Scheuerer and Birgith Mehl shone. Second place went to Spain with 326 points, which beat Italy in third place with 324 points.

The prize-giving ceremony was held in the gardens of the Santa Catalina Royal Hideaway Hotel, in the presence of Emma Cabrera Bello, luxury ambassador of the competition and godmother of the Spanish team. Its captain, Miguel Carnero, presented all his colleagues with a commemorative flag, before the representative of the Czech Republic team announced his country as the host of the next edition of the Nations Cup.
