The Cervantes Institute hosts the series 'Literature and Labour Movement'

Between May 25 and June 2, the Cervantes Institute is hosting three literary activities as part of the series 'Literature and Labour Movement', a programme focusing on authors, both classic and contemporary, who have taken up or are currently tackling themes related to the world of labour and the labour movement.
Organised by the Francisco Largo Caballero Foundation, with the collaboration of the University of Alcalá, the City Council of Alcalá de Henares, the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá and the Cervantes Institute, with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, the series reviews the history of labour and the labour movement as a support for literary creation.
The first of the colloquia at the Cervantes, 'A look at the Spanish classics of workers' literature', brings together Manuel Rico and Jesús Cañete this Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Alcalá de Henares (c/ Libreros, 23), introduced by the director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero.
Manuel Rico is a poet, narrator and literary critic, author of some twenty books of poetry, novels, essays and critical editions, and a regular contributor to specialist journals. Jesús Cañete Ochoa, PhD in Philology, is director of the Festival de la Palabra at the University of Alcalá and has curated numerous photography exhibitions and exhibitions on different writers.
Until June 4, the series will include several other activities, such as talks, readings, debates and an awards ceremony, at different venues. The Cervantes Institute will host another two of the scheduled events.
On Tuesday June 1, at the Madrid headquarters (c/ Barquillo, 4), there will be a round table discussion entitled 'The world of labour and labour mobilisations in current literature', led by authors Elvira Navarro and Isaac Rosa and journalist José Andrés Rojo. The event will be available on the Cervantes Institute's own Youtube channel.
In addition, on Wednesday June 2 there will be a literary reading at the Cervantes de Alcalá de Henares with the poet Miguel Hernández as the protagonist. The aforementioned Jesús Cañete will direct this evening entitled 'Miguel Hernández and Labour Poetry', in which Miguel Cubero, actor, stage director and visual artist, will recite verses by the poet from Orihuela. He will be accompanied by Sara Águeda, a reference in the baroque music scene in Spain, on the harp.
