La Singla. Paloma Zapata. Spain, 2023, 95 min.
A filmmaker is fascinated by the art of a flamenco dancer after seeing archive material from the 1960s and decides to investigate her. The search leads her to Antonia Singla, a dancer who was born on the Somorrostro beach in Barcelona and went deaf shortly after birth. At the age of 17 she became an international cult dancer, but when she turned 30 she abruptly disappeared from the stage without a trace. Behind her fascinating look, Singla hid a tragic story. Determined to unveil it, Paloma Zapata rescues from oblivion a woman who was ahead of her time, unjustly erased from history and who made a great contribution to flamenco, gypsy culture and the deaf community.
