Seville City Council and the Foundation Three Cultures promote interculturalism with the peoples of the southern Mediterranean

The delegate for Youth and Development Cooperation of Seville City Council, Juan Antonio Barrionuevo, and the director of the Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, Concha de Santa Ana, signed a collaboration agreement to carry out a series of activities within the framework of the 'Seville, land of diversity' project. The aim of this agreement is to "generate spaces for intercultural coexistence in the city of Seville through the development of the cultural and artistic expressions of the neighbouring peoples of the southern Mediterranean".
Specifically, the objectives of this agreement are to promote knowledge of the countries bordering the Mediterranean, disseminate musical rhythms and eliminate stereotypes and clichés associated with the different cultures through the use of new virtual communication channels, thereby generating spaces for meeting and debate among citizens.
To this end, the Three Cultures Foundation and the Seville City Council are committed to developing joint actions such as the film cycles to be programmed in September and November, dedicated to Sephardic culture and Morocco, respectively. Concerts will also be held to raise awareness among Seville's citizens of the musical rhythms of the Mediterranean, including klezmer, Andalusian and popular chaabi music, and the mystical music of the Turkish dervishes. The agreement also refers to other important lines of action of this Foundation, such as children's activities or the Pasaporte Tres Culturas, an exchange and training programme for young people that promotes the values of interculturality.
"This agreement and this line of collaboration are part of the objectives set out in the Master Plan for Development Cooperation of the city of Seville and in the Seville 2030 Strategic Plan, which is based on the fulfilment of the Sustainable Urban Development Goals. With this measure we are moving forward to continue contributing from the City Council to generate a more active, critical and committed citizenship", explained the delegate for Youth and Development Cooperation, Juan Antonio Barrionuevo.
For her part, the director of Three Cultures pointed out that "since our Foundation was created in 1999, we have established ourselves as a benchmark in the defence of dialogue between people of different cultures, origins and religions who live together in the Mediterranean; an objective that we will continue to promote with the help of our Board of Trustees, made up equally of Moroccan and Andalusian authorities, aware of the importance of an institution such as ours that extols the values of encounter, tolerance and mutual respect".
The agreement signed this Wednesday involves the contribution by Seville City Council of 25,000 euros to the Three Cultures Foundation so that both institutions join forces to eliminate stereotypes and clichés associated with the different cultures that coexist in Seville, giving value to the richness that diversity brings to our society.
