The diplomat and former director of the CNI makes his debut in fiction novels after an extensive career in the world of diplomacy

The Three Cultures Foundation presents 'Espía accidental', the fiction debut of the diplomat and ex-director of the CNI, Jorge Dezcallar

Jorge Dezcallar

The Three Cultures Foundation, in collaboration with the publishing house La Esfera de los Libros, is organising the presentation on 1 December of 'Espía accidental', the debut novel by Jorge Dezcallar, a diplomat with a long career that includes such notable posts as Morocco, the Holy See and the United States of America, and former director of the CNI, in the company of Javier Fernández Arribas, director of the magazine 'Atalayar. Entre dos orillas'.

In 'Espía accidental', the war in Syria and the enmity between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran serve as the backdrop for Dezcallar's first novel. Dezcallar's forty years of diplomatic life, eight of which he was director general of Foreign Policy for Africa and the Middle East in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the fact that he was the first civilian director of the Spanish intelligence service are present in the pages of the book.

Of his time in the CNI, Dezcallar highlights having been able to meet men and women "with a strong sense of State". Patriots dedicated "body and soul" to a very solitary job with many facets (from analyst to hacker, from translator to field agent, etc.) that not even their families can know about. Thus, 'Espía accidental' is a novel in which, perhaps, any resemblance to reality is not pure coincidence.

At the end of the event, copies of 'Espía accidental' will be available for sale and signing by the author.

Places to attend in person are limited, so it is essential to register in advance through the website of the Three Cultures Foundation.
