Chinese company Gotion High Tech starts building battery factory in Kenitra

The Chinese-European group Gotion High Tech, a leader in the field of electric mobility, has officially started work to establish a huge factory in Kenitra with an integrated system for the production of batteries for electric cars.
This factory, GIGAFACTORY, will produce electric batteries not only for the Moroccan market but also for export, and is expected to create thousands of job opportunities.
As Rue20 points out, choosing Kenitra, located in the Atlantic area, will bring strategic advantages due to its proximity to Europe, thus facilitating international trade.
This project reflects Morocco's commitment to clean energy and the circular economy, attracting huge investments in the renewable energy sector. In addition to the environmental impact, this initiative will stimulate regional industrial and technological development, boosting the Kingdom's economic development.
Aziz Akhannouch's government had signed a strategic investment agreement with the Chinese-European group to establish this factory. Subsequently, Akhannouch himself visited the company's factory in China, where he discussed the progress of the Kenitra factory with the group's president, Zhen Li.

Gotion High Tech was chosen for its pioneering expertise in the field of batteries for electric cars to develop an integrated project to produce batteries for electric cars with a capacity of up to 20 GWh and an investment cost of 12.8 billion dirhams.
This project will be the first electric car battery factory in the Middle East and North Africa region, reinforcing Morocco's leading position in the automotive industry and the energy transition.
The total value of the investment amounts to 65 billion dirhams, with the creation of 17,000 direct and indirect jobs, including 2,300 highly skilled jobs.
