Ineco will be responsible for analysing the aeronautical infrastructures and terminals of Casablanca airport in order to analyse its current situation and establish the infrastructure and equipment development strategy to be able to absorb the future passenger traffic that may occur at this aerodrome.

Ineco is a Spanish multinational public company under private management, dependent on the Ministry of Transport, with 55 years of experience in transport, energy, environmental and urban planning projects and dedicated to offering innovative, integral and technological solutions in all continents and sectors. With a multidisciplinary team of more than 5,500 professionals, the company is present on all continents where it deploys its experience and capacity to tackle technically complex projects thanks to its specialised knowledge and the application of the most advanced and cutting-edge technology.

ONDA has turned to Ineco to design the development of Casablanca International Airport thanks to the Spanish company's extensive experience. The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, held a meeting with the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohammed Abdeljalil, and representatives of the main Moroccan mobility operators, and the agreement was reached.

Vázquez Torrón pointed out that "Morocco is going to give a boost to its transport infrastructures and its relations with Spain are at a good moment, so a promising stage is opening up for Spanish engineering and construction companies in a country in which French companies traditionally held a very majority position in the market. With this project we are consolidating our leadership as airport planners. The key value we have contributed to the transformation of the airport network in Spain, as well as the development of master plans in Colombia, Mexico, Greece and Cape Verde, represent an experience that positions Spanish engineering in the place it deserves", according to the Spanish company itself.

With a view to the coming years, the development plan will include passenger traffic, baggage and aircraft movement forecasts; an assessment of the airport's current capacities and measures for their optimisation; in addition to development scenarios, identification of current and future needs in terms of road and rail connectivity; and establishment of the phases of the expansion works.

Ineco has already been involved in Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport in a previous expansion project. Ineco was also responsible for carrying out the project to study, analyse and reorganise Morocco's airspace in order to develop a new air navigation system.

Close relationship between Morocco and Spain

This concession is further proof of the excellent diplomatic relations between Morocco and Spain, which were strengthened following Spain's decision to support the Moroccan proposal for Western Sahara as the most serious, credible and realistic way to resolve the Sahrawi dispute.

A Spanish political movement that led to an important meeting in Rabat between King Mohammed VI and the Spanish President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in which the road map was drawn up that has marked the link between the two nations until the present day, and which led, for example, to the High Level Meeting held in the Rabat capital in February 2023, which led to the signing of multiple agreements beneficial to both nations in different sectors.

Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport is located in the town of Nouasseur, 30 kilometres southeast of Casablanca, and is the most important airport in Morocco, covering more than 36% of national air traffic and welcoming around 9.8 million passengers in 2023, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year.

ONDA and the Moroccan government also have investment plans for the airports of Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier and Rabat-Salé, which have been accelerated by Morocco's designation as one of the venues to host the 2030 World Cup.
