The President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet, received on Tuesday the Emirati Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), who is on an official visit to Spain.

Al Jarwan discussed with Batet opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the General Assembly and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, and the Spanish Congress. They also agreed to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides.

The Emirati diplomat also asked Batet to invite Spanish MPs to join the ninth session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and the International Conference on Tolerance, to be held from 26-28 March in the United Arab Emirates.

In addition, he reviewed the Council's most prominent efforts to support the values and culture of love, peace and tolerance around the world. Al Jarwan also gave an overview of the most important initiatives and projects in which the Council is involved around the world to promote peaceful coexistence and tolerance.

The president of the GCTP valued the great role of Spain and its various institutions in spreading the culture of peace, coexistence and tolerance throughout the world and its contribution to international initiatives. Spain's role aims to put an end to conflicts by peaceful means and to support the prosperity of development throughout the world, especially in Latin America and Africa.

Batet, for her part, praised the council's efforts to spread a culture of respect for others, peace and tolerance among the different peoples of the world in recent years.

She also thanked Al Jarwan for his interest in partnering with the Spanish Congress of Deputies and establishing cooperation ties with various institutions in Spain.

Al Jarwan presented the President of the Spanish Congress with the shield of the World Council for Tolerance and Peace, in recognition of the role of the Spanish Parliament and its various committees in supporting equality, human dignity, peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
