The imminent premiere in mid-March in Seville of the opera "La Bella Susona" offers the opportunity to hold a special session of the Three Cultures Foundation's Cátedra al-Ándalus project.

On 6 March, at 18:00, in the Salón del Almirante of the Reales Alcázares, the Three Cultures Foundation is organising a conference in which the keys to understanding the opera "La Bella Susona" will be discussed.

The work is set in a context, that of the late 15th century, in which society was in the process of transformation, in the final years of an era of coexistence and just before the establishment of a new socio-economic order that was about to change everything. The late medieval fabric that Muslims, Jews and Christians had established, in which trade with the East and centuries-old relationships were respected, was already showing signs that the balance was becoming increasingly unstable.

The story that the authors have set down in opera form contains a reflection of their time and of Seville itself at a crucial moment, with no room for reflection as it is almost a time of war in which love arises between two young people who are supposedly enemies, representatives of two worlds that no longer understand each other.

The conference will feature the participation of the authors of the opera themselves, Alberto Carretero and Rafael Puerto (composer and librettist respectively), and the historian Rafael Pérez, doctor in History from the University of Seville and a specialist in the period of the work.

The session will take place on Wednesday 6 March 2024 at 18.00 h. in the Salón del Almirante of the Reales Alcázares.
